So the reason why I decided to write this book was because I was in this industry for 10+ years. It was my thirteenth anniversary this year. I started at a very young age, and I had a lot of chance to travel around the world. And I always thought that I had a story to tell. I thought my life was very unique, and I had a lot of, you know, a lot of drama, a lot of competition, boys, everything that I kind of wanted to tell the world about.

This book is supposed to be a fiction. I never wanted to write an autobiography or a tell-all story. It’s just, I wanted to make good entertainment. A good read. The target audience for the book is definitely my fans and the younger audience. I really wanted the younger audience to know what it is and what it takes. I wanted to give them a glimpse of the behind-the-scenes.

I feel the general public thinks that K-pop idols are perfect. Or, you know, their choreography is perfect. Their vocals are perfect. Everything’s perfect. But you know, it all comes from so much effort. I just wish that the people really recognize their efforts and their hard work. And I try to really portray that in my novel as well. It’s just an accurate reflection of K-pop industry. It’s an accurate reflection of my life as well from all the trainee days and from all the diet and no dating rules. And everything like that, it’s just.. There’s no sugar coating. And I just try to be very honest.

Having been in the K-pop industry, and being in the center of it all, I’m really proud of how far it has come actually. And it’s really fascinating to see the world embrace K-pop and K-culture. BTS, BLACKPINK.. They’re on Billboard, doing a lot of collaborations. And just being on western TV, it’s just very exciting actually to see and watch. And when I travel the world, people really recognize K-pop and they recognize me as well. So I just feel, ‘Wow, how far have we come?’

When I was.. when I debuted in Korea, I thought Korea was my only territory and the only language that I’m ever gonna speak when I work. Being a K-pop star for me was the start. It was the base of my career. And it’s how I made a name for myself. And then there were so many more opportunities that came through. I wish the readers and the audience to be inspired by the story, and maybe be inspired by me to really chase after your dreams. And it’s okay to have a voice and speak up for yourself, and do your thing for yourself.
