Oh my gosh, you guys. It’s so cool. You guys send me pictures. Bye! I love them!

Interviewer:

Because you guys’ song is called ice cream, Do each of you have a favorite ice cream topping? What’s your go-to ice cream topping? 

 

Selena:

Ooh, ice cream.

 

Interviewer:

I know. Could we have ice cream for breakfast? Cause I think we could.

 

Jennie:

We all love ice cream.

 

Rose:

I don’t know if you guys have this in the States, but in Korea, they put ice cream in the middle of bread and have it like a sandwich.

 

Selena:

In bread?

 

Rose:

Like it’s a sandwich.

 

Jennie:

But it’s not like salty bread. It’s kind of like a sweet one instead.

 

Interviewer:

I like it. Like cookies. 

 

Jennie:

If you ever come to Korea, you have to try it.

 

Lisa:

You have to.

 

Interviewer:

We’ll come there, and you show us how it’s done, okay?

Selena:

I’ve posted, I’ve posted just them. And after a day, I got a million followers. And I was like.. “What..?” It’s because, they’re so excited when they work with me. And I’m like, “Guys, no, no, no, no.” It’s me that’s excited.

 

Interviewer:

How funny is that to hear Selena Gomez say she posted that she was working with you guys. And she got a million followers.

 

Selena:

Did you guys know that?

 

Jennie:

No, we didn’t know. That’s crazy.

 

Interviewer:

The video came out seamless. Honestly when you watch it, you guys are having so (much) fun. Selena’s having so much fun. But I want to ask, what was it like to be back on set? Was there crazy creative energy? Was like the team, the production team, as excited to be back working, you know, making a video, as you guys were?

 

Rose:

Definitely.

 

Selena:

What was it like for you guys?

 

Rose:

I feel like as much as we were very trying to be careful and cautious of what’s actually been happening,. We tried to go through all the steps so that everybody was safe. But definitely because we had quite a long time too under lockdown, it was time for us to be back on our game, A game. We were all feeling very creative and super excited.

 

Jennie:

We missed it so much. So just being able to be back and just be us, it was a great moment.

 

Selena:

I mean my music videos were like boot camp. I’m like, they do not play around. They’re like, I’ll touch something and the guy will be like ‘Wash your hands,’ I’m like.. I’m like..  I barely touched it.

Interviewer:

Tell me this, you know, I have been pretty fascinated with your rise. I feel like the ride you ladies have, the ride that you ladies have had has been one that’s like.. It’s happened quick, but you ladies have been working in music, working towards this for a very long time. Tell me where the name BLACKPINK came from.

 

Jennie:

The main message in our group name would have to be.. We were struggling at the beginning with the group name. But, I guess.. 

 

Rose:

To find a word that describes us, just as, with one word.

 

Jennie:

If there was a color mixed with black and pink in the right amount, we would have gone with that color. But since we couldn’t find that..

 

Rose:

We just put them together and made one word with them.

 

Jennie:

Yeah, we wanted to express the diversity of the group, and how far and different genres that we could do and show you guys.

 

Interviewer:

Listen, you nailed it. You nailed it. You say, for people to notice you, how about you were the first, a girl K-pop group to perform at Coachella.

 

Jennie:

It was so unreal.

 

Interviewer:

And then y’all run into Will Smith and Jaden and he knows who you are. 

 

Rose:

Eden was the sweetest.

 

Jennie:

They’re like the best family ever. The sweetest.. and yeah. We miss them so much.

 

Rose:

They made us feel so welcomed, I mean.. that was right before.. we ran into them right before our show. And so it’s like, they’re just lovely..

 

Jennie:

A big boost for our confidence. Will Smith just coming up saying hi. And Jaden coming up and saying he knows us.

 

Rose:

Oh my god, you’re great, you’re amazing. Thank you for saying that.

 

Interviewer:

It’s wild, right? It’s crazy. It makes me think of some of the other collaborations that you guys have had. Selena Gomez.. and Ice cream. Just tell me, tell me how that happened. Just, who calls who? And is like, so we got an idea,

 

Rose:

We had this song for a while. And we were always, we were like, I mean, who could be perfect for the song? And we’ve always been such a big fan of her. And, I mean, we’re very grateful that our label, like we’re in the same label so it was like a lot smoother to get through to her. And I’m just grateful that she jumped on the track. She was like the sweetest person, so down to earth and so easy to work with. We’re very grateful to share that amazing song with her.

 

Interviewer:

At one point, I was like, Selena Gomez could be potentially like an honorary member of this group. Like your voices go together, it makes sense.

 

Jennie:

That’s how amazed we were too. We were like, because, at the start, we could.. we were worried. Because we’ve never shot a video with a foreign artist before. And on the top, we couldn’t be together shooting it, talking about it. We had to do everything online. Is that right? 

 

Rose:

Yeah, yeah.

 

Jennie:

At the end, it just worked out so magically. So one day we would love to have her on stage with us. It would be our honor to have her.

 

Interviewer:

Wait, BLACKPINK and Selena Gomez together on stage?

 

Jennie:

I mean, Imagine!

 

Interviewer:

Your fans would like explode. They would not know how to respond. It would be a show unlike anything else, right? Definitely. We can’t wait for that day to come.
